I follow a lot of drawing and comic teachers. Some focus exclusively on people who want to create art. Others, Like Georgia Webber, offer something more.
Georgia helps people … I’m not sure how to describe it … turn drawing into … a spiritual practice? A process of self-exploration and self-support? A catalyst for profound inner growth?
I joined her online session this morning and the experience was eye-opening, productive and FUN. I’ve played with drawing to process emotion before, but this was something new.
The guidance for today’s session was:
Write a 1-2 word summary of the theme of your life in the middle of a page
Surround the theme with some of the emotions that have accompanied that theme throughout your life
Draw (or journal) about any of these emotions
Here’s mine:
The itty bitty notes (numbered 1-3 on the bottom corners) are my responses to these questions:
What have you learned about your theme?
What questions do you still have about your theme?
What do you wish everyone knew about your theme?
I learned something about myself through this process - and that always makes my heart happy.
I’m constantly signing up to workshops and courses (and actually doing them 😁). But this is the first time I’ve felt compelled to share something with my favourite people while I was still in the middle of doing it.
You, as a fabulous Great Things reader, are my favourite people.
Which is why I’m sharing this with you:
Georgia is oh-so-generously offering free access to ALL her group sessions for the entire month of January (this includes past call recordings, which means there’s a LOT to play with).
You don’t need any drawing skills (although if you can draw a line, a circle and a squiggle, then you can draw!). You don’t have to share what you create. You don’t need to be on camera, or even speak. You don’t even need to draw unless you want to.
It’s literally zero pressure.
So if you’re interested in exploring some fresh ways to develop your self awareness with a teacher who encourages her students to do what feels right to them - even when that conflicts with her prompts (top teachering in my book), join us!
You can sign up for free by clicking this nifty little button:
I’m not an affiliate and I gain nothing from you deciding to join (other than the awesome fact that I might get to see you live on a call!!). I’m sharing this with you because I loved it and thought you might enjoy it too.
I’m in Australia, so I can only make the Tuesday night sessions (Wednesday morning in Oz). There are other weekly sessions available depending on your time-zone.
If this seems like fun to you, I’d love to see you there this coming Tuesday night/Wed morning! Or the one after that.
And if not, no probs!
I shall soon be dancing my way back into your inbox with some rather fabulous gift(s). Kinda like a kind but tardy Santa!
Ok, so you know this is better as a conversation than as me talking/drawing AT you. So….your turn!
Got a favourite drawing this week?
Got anything you wanna share about any this? Or about anything at all?
I just bought a Thermomix after my other cooking/mixing thing died. I named the Thermomix Daisy. Got any experience with them? Any recipes you’d recommend? I’m kinda excited about cooking again!
Have you found any other teachers or resources that blend personal growth/spirituality and playful fun?
Great post, Medha! And thank you so much for the link to Georgia's sessions. 😊
What a great course! I just restacked your post in Notes so hopefully more people will see it. I loved your drawing and questions in response to the course prompt. I’m definitely wrestling with how to feel safe in the world these days.
